Even though Democrats are outnumbered and outvoted in Missouri’s Republican-dominated legislature, they have found ways to advance policies that meet the needs of their constituents and the broader public. By negotiating key amendments, building unexpected alliances, and shaping the conversations around critical issues, they’ve secured meaningful wins. There can be many ways to “win.” In my experience as an advocate, success takes many forms.
Once again, the broader view you bring to the proceedings is appreciated. And yes, being appreciative of the difficult work that went into the advances that could be harvested is absolutely the right thing to do. Still, here in Missouri it's been a lot of years of being thankful for table scraps. I'm reminded of the great observation from Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Mike Royko: "It's much harder to be a liberal than a conservative. Why? Because it is easier to give someone the finger than a helping hand."
Thanks for summarizing the positive points of bills passed in this year's session. It gives me a bit of hope that some good will survive in this time of daily bleak political news.
Thank you! I do appreciate your insights and your approach! This is so important and so well said.
Thanks Scott for detailed look at some good things going through. It helps give me hope. I shared this on my facebook page.
