Today, 1 in 5 people in Missouri are covered by Medicaid (about 1.4 million residents). This includes: 39% of all children. Two-thirds of all MO nursing home care. 39% of all pregnancies, and approximately 350,000, mostly working adults.
Thanks Scott for the information. It does seem like a good time to call. Can you suggest a summary or simple way of wording? Would it be enough to say "Please don't support reducing budgets of Medicaid and Medicare?" What is the name/number of the resolution?
A handy website that helps with making calls to your elected officials is www.5calls.org. It offers talking points and the resolution details for the Medicaid/Tax budget issue. Staffers recommend that you add your own comments so it doesn't seem like you are calling with prescribed talking points. I've been writing to Onder and Kehoe regularly. I get a pretty respectful response from Kehoe's office, and a curt acknowledgment from Onder. Rudy Veit is not my state representative, but we speak regularly as we work out at the same gym. Rudy and I have different opinions on some basic topics, but I have always found him to be reasonable and straightforward.
If we wanted to donate to or volunteer with an organization that helps provide health care for economically struggling families, we'd be seen as a good folks, perhaps even noble. But try to work for a society that does the same thing and suddenly we're all dreaded socialists. SMH
Absolutely not! The wealth and profits of wealthy households and already profitable corporations would significantly increase as a result of Republican proposals for trillions of dollars in new or extended tax cuts. Republican also propose trillions of dollars of cuts to health assistance, food assistance, and other programs which would leave more children in poverty, more families without stable housing, and more people without health coverage. Let’s give more money to Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg and Ellison! Because they need more businesses, planes, homes, cars and wives?
Scott thanks again for giving us the “whole” picture! When Onder was in Jeff that was his spiel- Medicaid loafers! Guess it hasn’t changed!
